Sandpoint Girls Win Inland Empire Classic, Boys 3rd

The Sandpoint Cross Country team completed the invitational portion of their season this past Saturday at the Inland Empire Classic in Lewiston. Both boys and girls teams continued to race well, as the girls swept the competition, while the boys took a 2nd and 3rd out of the 26 teams in attendance. Sandpoint finished with 25 personal records on the day, and now will take the next 2 weeks to prepare for the Regional Championships.

The Varsity Girls team continued their winning ways this season, placing 1st place with 55 points. The depth continues to be impressive, winning even with Katherine Kaul and Heather Wallace sitting out recovering from injuries. Colville was 2nd with 61 points. Hannah Davidson placed 2nd overall and first for the team, running a 19:12 over the 5 kilometer course. Niah Brass was next with a 19:54, placing 9th out of the 118 runners in the race. Ciera Bailey ran a PR of 20:08 for 12th place, Kali Scheel placed 16th with a 20:31, Farli Boden was 19th in 20:47, Sharon Rowe 20th in 21:04, and Corina Wallace 28th in 21:37.

In the boys race, Lewiston and Southridge took 1st and 2nd, with Sandpoint coming in 3rd with 92 points. Ephriam Weisz placed 10th overall with a 16:47 out of the field of 158 runners, followed by Garrett Pierce in 15th with a 17:02. Cole Dillon was next in 19th with a 17:18, sophomore Brady Nelsen was 23rd in 17:25. Freshman Tyler McNamee placed 26th in 17:39, followed by Peik Lund-Andersen in 29th with a 17:40. Dutt Rogers was in at 18:29.

In the girls JV race, Sandpoint placed 1st with 27 points. Sophomore Paige Davidson led wire to wire, winning the race in a personal record time of 21:27. She was followed by teammate Chloe Braedt in 3rd place with a 22:06, Bionce Vincent 7th in 23:32, Chloe Pierce 8th in 23:37, and Liz Kempton in 11th in 23:59 to round out the scoring 5. The girls once again proved their depth, winning the race even as Sharon Rowe and Corina Wallace stepped into the Varsity race.

In the boys JV, Sandpoint took 2nd to Southridge. The boys were led by Seth Graham, who placed 3rd in a time of 17:38 out of the 189 runners in the race. Teammate Kyle Almeida was right on his heals in 4th, also in 17:40. Sloan Woodward placed 12th in 18:14, Conrad Becker was 17th in 18:41, and Addison McNamera was 18th in 18:42 to round out the scoring 5. Just like the girls, the boys showed great depth even as Tyler McNamee and Dutt Rogers stepped into the Varsity race to run for sick teammates.

Regionals will be run on October 19th at Scott's Field in Farragut State Park. The Girls race starts at 12:00, with the boys to follow at 12:45.
