Being Prepared
Injuries occur, but there are ways that you as a runner can help to lower your risk of injury.
- Come into the season with a base summer running program so that you are ready to start more intense workouts
- Do the warmups and warmdowns as prescribed
- Get enough sleep (7 to 8 hours a night)
- Eat a well balanced healthy diet (see nutrition section)
- Listen to your body, know the difference between being sore and being injured
- Pay attention to the mileage and wear on your shoes, replace them when neccesary

Never really give in as long as you have any earthly chance, and above all don't allow yourself to fancy that you are in this predicament until the gruesome knowledge is absolutely forced upon you. For however bad you may be feeling, it is by no means impossible that the other fellows may be feeling quite as much, if not even more, distressed.
